Studio 3 Arts are thrilled to announce the five artists who have been commissioned to produce new work as part of Black Art Matters, after receiving almost 200 applications to an open call for Black artists in March 2021. Curated by Studio 3 Arts Associate Director Ashley J, the Black Art Matters season will take place between Autumn/Winter 2021 and Spring 2022, presenting new work online and in the world-class new Studio 3 Arts venue opening in Winter 2021.
LOEWE FOUNDATION / Studio Voltaire Award 2021
The LOEWE FOUNDATION / Studio Voltaire is a two year programme benefitting seven artists with support through rent–free studio space, an individualised programme of mentoring and professional development opportunities, curatorial and pastoral support and a £2000 bursary.
2021 – 2023 Awardees:
New work inspired by a film about the fatal shooting of a young black man outside a police station in 1982 has been commissioned by Goldsmiths, University of London’s Exhibitions Hub and London Community Video Archive.
Filmmaker, animator, painter and Goldsmiths graduate Djofray Makumbu will receive mentoring, a fee and production budget to create a public event or exhibition of his art work.

The Alumno team were thrilled to attend the Goldsmiths University of London recent graduate art show. During the evening the winner of the second Alumno + SPACE studios bursary was announced as Djofray Makumbu.
